We are excited to add Jewel to our breeding program. Not only does she have pervasive fineness and elite genetics, but her fleece is very bright with tight crimp, and dense bundles of low micron, low amplitude, high frequency crimp with long staple length.
Jewel was sired by Accoyo America Diomedes, out of Full Accoyo PCA Accoyo Tia--a Caligula daughter--and PCA Hemingway Accoyo Nautilus--a cross of Hemingway and Accoyo Sicuani, a white dam whose fleece has won numerous shows.
Diomedes has been shown multiple times and won multiple times, and placed 2nd in the AOBA National Show in 2006.
The fleece judge for 2008 Alpacapalooza, Cheryl Gehly, agreed with us about Diomedes' 2007 blanket. She wrote "Wow! Simply spectacular..." and awarded him 20 OUT OF 20 FOR FINENESS AND HANDLE, 9.5 OUT OF 10 FOR CHARACTER, AND 5 OUT OF 5 FOR DENSITY. In addition, Diomedes won the COLOR CHAMPION, BEST CRIMP, and JUDGE'S CHOICE awards.
Diomedes has that perfect combination of fineness and density with an indescribable brightness, and he is passing it on...in lights and in color! First histograms on his offspring are fabulous! Of the 11 that we tested in 2010, all but three fell under 17 microns (with those 3 at 17.2, 19.1, 19.2,) and the SD's ranged from 2.9 to 3.7. AND SECOND HISTOGRAMS FOLLOW SUIT...OF THE NINE YEARLINGS TESTED IN 2010, ALL BUT TWO WERE UNDER 18 MICRONS.
One of Diomedes' "grandcrias" had an incredible first histogram of 12.4 AFD, 2.2 SD, 0.2%>30.
Jewel's dam is no less: Hemingway's Naomi, as shown in her name, was sired by the one and only Studmaster Hemingway.
Naomi's histograms show incredible fineness: Though her first 2 shearings (when she was being boarded) weren't the most impressive (AFD of 20 and 21.4, respectively), look what it has been ever since!: 3rd year: 18.7; 5th year: 18.2; 6th year: 19.5; and 7th year: 18.7!!!!
